International Relations

SAHAIBZADA YAQUB KHAN

Short Description

When William Safire, an Op-Ed columnist, described him as “the most skillful diplomat in the world” in the November 8 edition of New York Times in 1999, Sahabzada Yaqub Khan (SYK) was continuously still peaking at 79 years old, a non-stop lustrous career as a Pakistani statesman, diplomat, placatory military figure and a recognition of an established polyglot scholar with command spanning seven languages. His career spanned from retiring as the lieutenant general of Pakistan Army and the Governor of East Pakistan to being the international face of Pakistan for three decades as her ambassador to France, Russia and the United States, the foreign minister and a world-class educationist as the founding Chairman of the Aga Khan University Board of Trustees for two decades. Our program in international relations bears his lustrous name to keep it alive as a homage to this greatest statesman and diplomat in Pakistan’s history.
